Social Worker - Children's Services
Location: Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council - Hybrid to include 1 day remote
Contract Type: Full time - 37 hours per week - Initially 3 months - potential to extend
Salary: £39.12 UMBRELLA ( £29.22 PAYE)
About the Role
We are working on behalf of Blaenau Gwent County Coucil and are seeking a motivated and skilled Social Worker to join their Social Services team. This role is responsible for delivering a high standard of social work practice in line with current legislation, national guidance, and departmental policies. You will manage a varied caseload, carry out assessments, develop care plans, and work in partnership with service users, carers, and multi‑agency professionals to promote independence, safety, and wellbeing. Key Responsibilities
* Provide social work assessment and care management in accordance with Authority policies and procedures
* Manage and prioritise a caseload effectively
* Support and empower service users to maximise independence and make informed choices
* Develop, implement, monitor, and review care and support plans
* Work collaboratively with carers, partner agencies, and multi-disciplinary teams
* Provide accurate information and advice on available services and statutory responsibilities
* Prepare clear, concise reports for a range of audiences, including court and safeguarding proceedings
* Act as an advocate for service users' rights and best interests
* Refer to or liaise with specialist services (e.g., welfare rights, legal services) when required
* Represent Social Services in professional and multi‑agency settings
* Participate in supervision, training, and professional development
* Comply with health & safety, equality, and anti‑discriminatory practice requirements
* Undertake additional duties appropriate to the Social Worker role as required by management
Essential Qualifications & Registration
* CQSW, Diploma, or BA (Hons) in Social Work
* Registered with Social Care Wales (or eligible to register before start date)
* Relevant social work experience in Children's or Adults' Services (including placements)
Essential Skills & Knowledge
* Knowledge of current social care legislation, guidance, and standards
* Understanding of research, best practice, and regulatory frameworks
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing
* Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies
* Good IT skills and accurate record keeping
* Well‑developed negotiation and problem‑solving skills
* Ability to analyse information and make prioritised, evidence‑based decisions
* Knowledge of anti‑discriminatory practice and equal opportunities
Welsh Language
Welsh language skills are desirable but not essential.
Special Requirements
* Current driving licence
* Access to a vehicle and ability to travel as required for work purposes
