Job Summary:
• We are seeking dedicated Passenger Assistants to support children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) on their journeys to and from school.
• This is a term-time only, split-shift role based in West Bridgford, Nottingham.
• The role involves ensuring a safe, caring, and supportive travel experience for pupils, in partnership with the driver.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Assist and supervise SEND pupils during transport between home and school, always ensuring their safety and comfort.
• Work collaboratively with the vehicle driver to manage pupil behaviour and respond to any incidents during transit.
• Operate within health and safety guidelines and ensure correct procedures are followed, including the safe securing of wheelchairs and use of restraints.
• Maintain communication with relevant staff to report concerns or safeguarding issues regarding any pupils.
• Support with boarding and disembarking, especially for passengers with mobility needs.
• Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to infection control and hygiene practices.
• Ensure the cleanliness and general upkeep of the vehicle where applicable.
• Provide basic support in emergency situations, including administering first aid if trained to do so.
• Escort and supervise pupils during transitions to and from the vehicle.
• Comply with safeguarding protocols and always transport service guidelines.
Skills/Experience:
• Experience working with children or vulnerable individuals, ideally in a transport, care, or education setting.
• Understanding of safeguarding procedures and ability to respond appropriately to incidents or concerns.
• Ability to work calmly under pressure, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• A patient, caring, and professional approach with a genuine commitment to supporting SEND pupils.
• Good punctuality and reliability, essential due to split-shift requirements.
• Familiarity with handling or supporting passengers with mobility needs or behavioural challenges is desirable.
• Basic knowledge of health and safety and manual handling procedures (training can be provided).
Additional Information:
• This is a temporary position for 12 weeks, working 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday (07:30–09:30 and 14:30–16:30). The start date is 1st September 2025.
• Driving licence not essential for the Passenger Assistant role, but ability to travel to County Hall for the start/end of shift is required.
