About the Role
The Information and Support Coordinator – Elective Home Education role is tosupport the tracking, identification and monitoring of children and young people who are at risk of not receiving the appropriate level of education in line with the local authority’s statutory duties.
The coordinator will work across the service, department and with partners to ensure the educational needs of children and their families are clarified, and responses are coordinated. To provide information, signposting, and advice to families, professional and colleagues about referral pathways, sources of advice and information, etc.
The coordinator will support the monitoring of the provision in place for electively home educated children.
The coordinator will receive requests for service following triage by the Inclusion Pathway Manager, process following pathways and service guidance, contacting referrer, family, etc. as required.
Provide telephone advice and support to families, for example:
1. Directing families to self-help resources such as websites, helplines, etc. and promoting their use as a first port of call.
2. Follow scripts and guidance to ensure families are given appropriate and accurate advice. Be able to identify where the needs are greater than can be met by advice only and escalate appropriately to Pathway manager.
3. Providing information about other services which may be available for self-referral / open access.
4. Providing telephone support and guidance, for example on basic behaviour strategies.
Contacting families to enable the tracking and educational route for children and young people.
5. Provide direct support to families around educational options and understanding their entitlement to effective education.
6. Maintain accurate records on various systems as required.
7. Contribution to the collation of data for statistical purposes and for reporting on performance.
8. To support the Education Officer for EHE in the scheduling of appointments with families and the production of reports.
9. Work collaborative within other co-ordinators in the team to assist managing demand at peaks times in response to the needs of the service.
About You
To apply for this post, you must have:
10. NVQ Level 3 or equivalent or demonstrable multi-agency experience.
11. Experience of working in an environment dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
12. Experience of providing telephone support and advice to families, asking the right questions to get the information required.
13. Experience of working in a multi-agency environment which involves working in collaboration and partnership with colleagues from a range of agencies and services.
14. Able to prioritise a demanding workload, taking a consistent approach to responding to children, young people, their families, and other professionals.
15. Ability to use Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Access and excel.
16. Able to follow procedures and guidelines and understand the importance of keeping up to date and accurate record
