We have 4 job opportunities for Band 4 qualified dental nurses to work at our Cheshunt clinic and support cover where needed across other HCT sites.
As a registered dental nurse for HCT you will be responsible for supporting the dental team to ensure the service users’ needs are met through high quality dental care. This specialist service for patients with additional needs offers a patient centred approach.
Main duties of the job
You will be required to maintain high standards of clinical work whilst carrying out dental nurse duties and to offer a high level of care for our cohort group. You will be expected to work at any of the Special Care Dental Service sites throughout Hertfordshire to cover staff sickness, annual leave, study leave and other duties when required. You may need to sit or stand for varying lengths of time in restricted positions, respond to unexpected changes in treatment plans, and move bulky heavy equipment such as hoists. You may have occasional direct exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances, e.g. during the treatment of very sick children or patients with challenging behaviour.
Job responsibilities
* Assist the dental surgeon in the provision of a complete range of NHS dental care, including treatment under inhalation sedation, general anaesthesia, or IV sedation where appropriate.
* Accurately record treatment using the R4 dental electronic system, including charting from the dentists instructions at the time of treatment.
* Participate in the annual individual performance review process.
* Carry out other appropriate duties commensurate with the post, e.g. school visits, home visits and epidemiology.
* Support band 4 nurses to complete the OH certificate and carry out nurse‑led clinics.
* Support post qualification progression especially in oral health.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
* Registration with the General Dental Council.
* Dental Nursing qualification – National Certificate or NVQ level 3.
Experience and Knowledge
* Knowledge of IT systems, accessing e‑mail, and data entry.
* Knowledge and understanding of confidentiality and ethical guidelines.
* Up‑to‑date knowledge of current professional issues, policies and procedures.
* Experience working with adults and children with a range of additional needs.
* Knowledge of dental software.
Skills and Abilities
* Good communication skills, including the ability to communicate with patients who may have barriers to understanding.
* Evidence of working as part of a team.
* Evidence of ability to work on own initiative.
* Ability to deal with patients who are extremely nervous and/or phobic.
Other
* Hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car for business purposes (unless a disability defines otherwise).

£27,485 to £30,162 per annum pro rata.
