To provide expert‑level clinical pharmacy services to the ophthalmology department. The post holder will lead pharmaceutical care for patients with ophthalmic disease.
The role involves managing both inpatients and outpatients, contributing to MDTs, attending specialist clinics, leading service development, supervising staff, and ensuring safe, cost‑effective, evidence‑based use of medicines. The post holder will also act as one of the deputies for the Lead Pharmacist for Ophthalmology, ensuring resilience across ophthalmology pharmacy services.
Main duties of the job
Establish and lead a specialist pharmacy role for Ophthalmology Services, providing senior clinical leadership and acting as an expert for medicines optimisation. Provide an expert level of clinical pharmacy services to Ophthalmology inpatient and outpatient services at UHSussex NHS Foundation Trust. Lead specialist clinical pharmacy practice for ophthalmology and be responsible for the delivery, development, evaluation and co‑ordination of clinical pharmacy services in line with the objectives of the division and the UHSussex pharmacy strategy.

Job responsibilities
This is a new role for the Trust, developed to strengthen specialist pharmacy leadership and governance within the field of Ophthalmology.

Person Specification
Professional Registration
* Degree in Pharmacy as recognised by GPhC and registered member of GPhC
Experience
* Evidence of relevant clinical experience in hospital pharmacy
* Evidence of post graduate development at certificate level
* Demonstrable ability of autonomous working
* Experience within field of Ophthalmology
Skills
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* Experience in conducting and reporting audits
* Effective skills in negotiating and appraising solutions and options
* Motivated and enthusiastic for role
* Experience managing high cost drugs
* Evidence of budget reporting
