1 month contract with a local authority
Job Purpose
* The Street Cleansing Operative is responsible for delivering a clean, safe, and well ‑maintained environment across the borough. The role involves cleansing public highways, open spaces, shopping precincts, car parks, and other designated areas, either independently or as part of a team. The operative will support the removal of fly ‑tipping, litter, waste, and debris, while operating safely, complying with health and safety regulations, and providing excellent customer service to residents and visitors.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
* Empty litter bins and dog waste bins, including separating recyclable materials where required.
* Remove fly ‑tipped waste, dumped refuse, bulk items, and dead animals from public areas.
* Carry out graffiti and fly ‑posting removal tasks.
* Remove drug litter and report hazardous waste appropriately.
* Clear leaf fall and maintain high ‑footfall zones such as town centres, markets, and car parks.
* Lay salt/grit and remove snow/ice during adverse weather conditions.
Essential Experience Required
* Experience working in a manual, outdoor, or street ‑based operational role (desirable but not explicitly required).
* Experience using manual handling techniques, equipment, or cleansing tools (desirable).
* Customer service experience when dealing with the public.
Essential Qualifications Required
* Willingness to undertake manufacturers’ training for specialist equipment.
* Ability to safely operate cleansing equipment and mobile applications following training.
Additional information to note
* Working hours: 35 hours per week
* We work on Bi weekly payment schedule

Requirements
To carry out a range of duties, as instructed, including work in public open spaces, public roads, car parks, carriageways. This could involve working alone, or in a team. This is in order to achieve a clean, safe and secure environment for residents and the general public.
