An experienced nurse is sought to join our Acute Oncology Specialist Nursing Team on a fixed term basis for 12 months. The role requires a nursing degree and a commitment to further study, with education and professional development actively supported by the Trust and Macmillan Cancer Support.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with partners at regional specialist centres and serve as a core member of the Specialist Multi‑disciplinary Team, acting as the patient’s advocate and participating in decision‑making.
- Develop and innovate service delivery to maximize quality, patient experience and cost‑effectiveness.
- Provide support for the patient and family from diagnosis through treatment and throughout the cancer journey.
- Use advanced communication and psychological assessment skills to assess and alleviate psychological distress for cancer patients and their families.
- Identify the need for onward referral to other agencies and disciplines when appropriate.
- Deliver education and specialist advice to patients, carers and staff on specific care and treatment for the speciality.
- Act as a valuable resource for the multi‑professional team and set standards of care, influencing the work of other professional groups and acting as a change agent.
- Support the cancer pathway to improve the patient experience as a core member of the MDT.
Qualifications
- Nursing degree and registration as a nurse.
- Experience in oncology or specialist nursing within an acute setting is preferred.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- Strong communication, teamwork and clinical assessment skills.
