We are working exclusively with a leading, rapidly expanding Quantity Surveying Consultancy to identify a highly experienced Director to join their senior leadership team. The business operates across major infrastructure projects and programmes throughout the UK, with a strong presence in utilities, energy, nuclear, and other critical process sectors. They provide commercial management, cost consultancy, and project management services to clients on high-profile, complex programmes.
This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate based in Chelmsford (or surrounding areas) to take a senior leadership role, contributing to strategic business growth, delivering complex infrastructure projects, and shaping the future direction of a growing consultancy. The role is primarily office-based in Chelmsford, with occasional travel to client offices and project sites.
The consultancy is rapidly expanding, aiming to grow its presence in the East of England, North West, and South, building highly skilled teams to support long-term frameworks and multi-year programmes. This is a chance to take a board-level role, leading teams and influencing the strategic direction of a thriving consultancy.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage a commercial team, ensuring delivery excellence across all projects.
Undertake fee-earning work on major infrastructure programmes to the highest professional standards.
Develop and enhance client services, creating value propositions and innovative solutions.
Drive business development, leveraging personal contacts and sector knowledge to win new work.
Act as a key Account Manager for existing clients, generating repeat business and long-term relationships.
Support strategic business planning, including annual service line budgets and setting SMART objectives.
Mentor and guide team members to support career development and succession planning.
Agree and manage project fees, forecasts, and profitability.
Maintain awareness of project and commercial risks, implementing mitigation strategies.
Continuously develop leadership and management skills to contribute effectively at board level.
Candidate Criteria
Chartered Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) or equivalent.
BSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent qualification.
15+ years’ experience in Quantity Surveying, including senior leadership experience.
Extensive experience with NEC3/NEC4 contracts and major infrastructure projects.
Strong commercial acumen with the ability to win work and develop long-term client relationships.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
Proven experience managing teams and developing high-performing commercial departments.
Willingness to travel occasionally to client offices (typically 2–3 nights per week maximum).
