The Role and the Department Durham University Business School, one of the longest established business schools in the UK, is a multi-disciplinary School characterised by academic excellence, internationally-rated research and superb student support services. Further information on the School can be found at http://www.dur.ac.uk/business/. The Business School hosts the editorial office of the Journal of Management Studies (JMS). JMS, which is governed by the Society for the Advancement of Management Studies (SAMS), is a leading international academic journal. It has one of the highest impact factors in management and business studies and is listed in the Financial Times' top 50 journals. The JMS editorial office is responsible for the publication of the Journal of Management Studies and handles well over 1,500 submissions per year. In addition, the office organises events and workshops worldwide and promotes the Journal's activities and published papers on social media. It also provides administrative support to the Society for the Advancement of Management Studies. The postholder will work as an integral part of the Editorial Office team, focusing on the processing of JMS submissions from initial submission through to acceptance. They will maintain an up-to-date knowledge of editorial processes and ensure these are reflected in current practice and documentation. They will also coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on annual journal processes such as the Editorial Review Board, Strategic Advisory Board, and awards. The postholder will be a key point of contact for enquirers, authors, and reviewers, and will provide a professional and efficient administrative service for the Journal of Management Studies and its governing organisation, SAMS. What you need to demonstrate when you apply What you need to demonstrate when you apply To be considered for this role, here are the skills/experience we're looking for: Qualifications/Experience 1. Five GCSEs at least Grade C or level four (or equivalent) including English Language and Mathematics or equivalent experience. 2. Experience of working in a busy office environment delivering front line administrative services or having relevant qualifications for the role. 3. Experience of managing time to meet deadlines and working under pressure without compromising on quality. Skills/Abilities/Knowledge 4. Good spoken and written communication skills and the ability to develop effective working relationships, both internally and externally. 5. Good digital skills including experience in using digital devices and apps including the internet, email, digital communication tools and Microsoft 365 applications, digital booking systems. 6. Committed to continuing professional development. 7. Ability to solve problems and resolve straightforward issues yourself and as part of a team. 8. Ability to provide advice and guidance to a range of colleagues and customers. Desirable Criteria 9. Experience of working on the front line with service delivery, and the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines without compromising on quality. 10. Experience of working in academic publishing or an editorial office. 11. Experience of dealing with international stakeholders. Teamwork • Resolve queries and respond to requests for information and advice and bring any complex issues to the attention of more experienced team members. • Help your team organise and provide administrative services that support key activities such as the annual awards and Editorial Review Board refresh, undertaken within your service and contribute to team planning activities. • Identify opportunities and contribute to decisions on improvements to services delivered by the team. • Help your team ensure that products and services are adapted in response to feedback and to meet changing demands. Communication/Liaison • Seek feedback from internal and external stakeholders on their requirements from your service to ensure that their reasonable expectations are being met. • Record information e.g. changes to Editorial Review Board status and respond to queries which you receive. • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that services are being delivered in an efficient and collaborative way. • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to plan the delivery of services and events. • Provide support for meetings, working groups and committees, such preparing and sending documents for meetings, drafting reports and taking minutes. • Any other reasonable duties.
