INTERNAL VACANCY

The City of York Council, York Learning Community Education department has an exciting opportunity for a motivated, talented and qualified person to deliver IAG in community settings and on a target based, outcome focused project supporting mostly economically inactive adults, as well as joining our wider IAG delivery team.

We’re looking for an understanding and empathetic adviser to deliver confidential, one to one information, advice and guidance interventions in community settings, on externally funded employability projects, and across York Learning’s wider service. You will also deliver innovative group sessions to enable progress to employment and/or further learning.

The post holder can comfortably engage with clients with complex needs, including mental and physical health conditions and neuro‑divergence. You’ll be advising and referring people for functional skills development, and signposting to relevant agencies, on a range of issues.

We are seeking someone who is keen to motivate and build confidence, while addressing barriers to work. You’ll be achieving targets and evidencing outcomes. A sound knowledge of employability, eg CVs, interview skills, transferable skills, is required.

The right candidate will be a confident and enthusiastic, liaising with referral partner organisations to develop and facilitate a client‑centred support network. You will maintain this active stakeholder network by working in community venues, as well as in West Offices.

The post requires delivery of externally funded workshops and interventions to improve wellbeing, employability and tech/digital skills. Required to work holistically, on externally funded projects, with communities, to support with employment and learning issues, to improve families’ economic and education circumstances.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C: Can express themselves fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.
