A strong understanding of the field of (anti-)corruption research and policy (or closely related field) would be a significant benefit.

GI ACE is an anti-corruption evidence research programme funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). The programme supports world‑class multi‑disciplinary research to inform the development of more effective policies and interventions that will help reduce corruption in developing countries and address its negative impact on people’s lives.

GI ACE’s research focuses on four themes:

* State Capture
* Global finance and enablers of corruption
* Crisis responses and corruption in vulerable sectors
* Corruption risks in global trade and commerce

GI ACE is one component of the broader Anti-Corruption Evidence Programme funded by the UK government, with two sister programmes: the University of Birmingham-led Serious Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Evidence (SOC ACE) programme and the SOAS, University of London-led Anti-Corruption research consortium (SOAS-ACE).

GI ACE is designed to produce new and operationally relevant evidence on tackling corruption, with a focus on ensuring that the research outputs support more effective, evidence-based anti-corruption initiatives by FCDO and its partners in developing countries and beyond.

Politics is a well-established and successful research-led department with a record of excellence in research assessment exercises and in teaching. The department is home to 20 faculty and around 600 students. We have a thriving Masters in Corruption and Governance course which recruits between 15-20 students per year, along a online distance learning version of the degree. The department is home to the internationally renowned Sussex European Institute and the Centre for the Study of Corruption, and also has research strengths in British politics, party politics, citizenship and migration, and various phenomena that challenge the existing political order such as populism, anti‑politics and protest politics.

In the most recent REF, 96% of the department’s outputs were regarded as either world‑leading or internationally excellent and the department’s GPA rose from 2.90 in 2014 to 3.38 in 2021. We performed in the most recent NSS improving our scores in almost every category with 85% of respondents evaluating our teaching positively.
