Mechanical Fitter (132kv) role at Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks
Base Location: Swindon, Melksham, Oxford or Andover
Salary and Hours
Salary: £34,749 - £40,939 (depending on Authorisations – further info below)
Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Onsite
What you will do
* Take responsibility for the inspection, maintenance, and safe operation of electrical equipment across the electricity network, with a primary focus on the 132kV system.
* Work with equipment such as electrical switchgear, transformers, busbars, isolators, and protection systems; ensure maintenance tasks and defect resolutions are completed within agreed timeframes and the network is restored to normal operation quickly.
* Respond to emergency fault scenarios.
* Play an active role in delivering construction projects in line with agreed KPIs; ensure plant and equipment—both electrical and mechanical—operate within specified limits.
* Support the maintenance team with planned and unplanned switching activities, including network isolation and restoration, within your authorised level; contribute to detailed planning of how, when, and where works are carried out.
* Represent Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks professionally with internal and external stakeholders, including the National Grid and small-scale power stations, to deliver excellent customer service and uphold the SSE brand.
* Maintain a strong commitment to safety, following all relevant SSE policies and procedures in every task.
Qualifications and experience
* Previous experience as an Electrical Fitter across 11kV and 33kV would be advantageous.
* Experience and/or authorisations to work on the electrical distribution network would be advantageous.
* Knowledge of the UK Electrical Distribution Network.
* Electrical or mechanical experience if your previous working history is outside of a DNO; high regard for safety.
* Excellent communication skills; ability to deal with customer issues face-to-face on a daily basis.
* A full UK driving licence is required.
Authorisations and pay bands
* Up to £45,905 – if you have 11kV SAP PTW
* Up to £51,484 – if you have 33kV SAP PTW
* Up to £57,728 – if you have 132kV SAP PTW
