Become part of our society. We are currently looking for a talented and motivated Engineer to join our Active Travel team in Edinburgh. This role can be worked flexibly, with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office and the option of adjusted start and finish times.
What does the role involve?
Working as an Engineer in our active travel team you will be exposed to project work across all stages of design development/pre-construction, from inception through to detailed design, and may take on site supervision responsibilities during construction works.
* Design and develop solutions to client problems using proven techniques and procedures.
* Prepare feasibility studies to assess constraints, risks, opportunities and route/provision type options.
* Undertake elements of design for cycle track/path alignment, drainage, kerbing, footways, and traffic signs/road markings.
* Produce design outputs such as drawings, specifications, schedules, reports and calculations to achieve the optimum solution.
* Work closely with team members and other design disciplines, appreciating their roles.
* Ensure deliverables are carried out within agreed timescales and budgets.
* Ensure solutions meet client needs and expectations exceed them.
* Liaise with clients and contractors and supervise works on site when required.
* Carry out all work in accordance with the Company’s IMS and current H&S legislation requirements.
* Take ownership of the quality of work produced and commit to professional development through in-house training and professional institution activities.
* Collaborate with a diverse team to develop solutions to client problems together.
To be successful in this role you’ll possess some or all of the following:
* A degree in Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering or equivalent, and be working towards achieving a relevant professional qualification.
* Knowledge and experience of the planning and delivery of active travel and sustainable transport projects or work packages on larger multidisciplinary projects.
* Experience undertaking geometry design in accordance with Cycling by Design and LTN 1/20 Cycle Infrastructure Design, using Civils 3D software.
* An understanding of urban design principles and a holistic approach to linear infrastructure design focused on sustainable transport modes and integrated design.
* Understanding of highway regulations and guidance such as Manual for Streets, DMRB, TSRGD, MCHW and the Traffic Signs Manuals.
* Knowledge of drainage design including network assessment, SuDS design and liaison with relevant stakeholders.
* Experience with AutoCAD and a sound understanding of its integration with the BIM environment.
* Experience creating 3D visualisations to aid stakeholder engagement events is desirable but not essential.
* Confident presentation of design solutions and discussion of progress internally and externally.
* A desire to learn, progress and challenge yourself.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
