Special School Nurse.
We would welcome applications from enthusiastic committed children’s nurses or learning disability nurses with proven clinical experience to work in the special schools that form The Vale Federation in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.
We would therefore welcome applications from nurses who have excellent communication skills and are able to manage their time effectively. An understanding of the needs of children and young people with Special Educational Needs & Disability (SEND) and additional health problems is essential.
The children are aged from nursery age through to 11 years and have a wide range of learning disabilities and some have complex health needs. The successful candidate will be based within Booker Park School in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. The nurse will work closely with education and other agencies to ensure the children achieve their full potential in school.
This is a permanent special school nurse position. The hours are 17.62 hours per week term time only. You would be working alongside another Band 6 SSN and as a member of a wider dedicated and enthusiastic team of special school nurses working across the county of Buckinghamshire.
Full training and support will be given.
An Enhanced DBS will be required for this post.
Main duties of the job
The special school nurse will be responsible for ensuring that all children with complex health needs have detailed health care plans and that these are reviewed and evaluated on a yearly basis.
There is a Multidisciplinary team at the school and a real ethos of working together for the benefit of the children, in order to help them reach their potential. The role will very much involve teaching and supporting the school staff in meeting and maintaining the health needs of the children for example by providing training in management of medication, epilepsy management, and gastrostomy feeding etc.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria
10. Registered Nurse Learning Disability or;
11. Registered Child branch/RSCN
12. Evidence of continuing professional development
13. Car Driver/current License
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
14. Relevant experience of working with children and families with complex health needs
15. Relevant experience of Multi agency working
16. Experience of training and monitoring staff around: gastrostomy care, administering medication, epilepsy etc
17. Current Knowledge and experience of Safeguarding

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES

31. Must be able to travel from one site to another withing the Buckinghamshire area
