Overall Objective
* To manage a specialist case load of patients with complex nutritional needs, using evidence based and person-centred principles, to assess, plan, implement and evaluate treatment
* To manage all service resources effectively.
* To take responsibility as an autonomous practitioner in planning and developing a dietetic service with a range of adults with complex needs in older persons mental health/ mental health and learning disability
Qualifications and Training
Degree or equivalent in Nutritional Sciences. Experience of working within a Health setting.
Health and Safety

Employees are required to co-operate with management to enable Iris Care Group to meet its own legal duties and to report any hazardous situations or defective equipment.
Role Responsibilities
Clinical
* Complete full assessment of patient’s nutritional status, using appropriate anthropometric, biochemical and medical records and identify their nutritional requirements.
* Devise core and specialist nutritional treatment plans e.g. diabetes, weight reducing, food intolerance, enteral nutrition, renal nutrition, disordered eating.
* Implement specialist group and individual treatments to achieve goals.
* Use patient centred motivation techniques to effect nutritional behaviour change.
* Evaluate and modify interventions using appropriate outcome measures.
* Practice in accordance with legislation according to your clinical area.
Communication
* Communicate with patients, using the most appropriate verbal, written or pictorial method, in a way that respects their view, autonomy and culture.
* Translate key nutritional messages into simple ideas and language that can be easily understood by the client group.
* Work collaboratively with all members of the clinical team and share information with the team members formally and informally through morning meetings/huddles/CTP and CPAs and MDT notes.
* Liaise with other departments within the service and beyond.
* Ensure the menu meets the ethically, cultural and health needs of all our patient groups.
* Ensure that the food choices meet National Nutritional Standards.
* Audit catering meals as prescribed to the service users.
* Support Training with staff to provide good meal time care.
Clinical Governance and Quality Standards
* Initiate and contribute to Clinical Governance and Quality Agenda Activity within the organisation.
* Attend statutory and mandatory training.
* Actively undertake measures to meet targets for organisational Key Performance indicators.
* Participate in Clinical Audit Programme.
Research and Practice Development
* Promote and engage in practice development, evaluation, audit and research activities to implement evidence-based practice.
* Share and disseminate research findings with professional colleagues in the interest of practice development.
* To act as a source of expertise in relation to dietetic therapy for the multidisciplinary team.
Education
* Participate and take the lead role in the specialist education and training of professional and clinical colleagues.
* Participate in and contribute to continuing professional development.
* Lead education and training events for colleagues.
Professional Ethics
* To adhere to relevant Health Profession Council regulations and other codes of professional conduct.
* Adhere to all organisational policies and procedures.
* To work within the provisions of the Mental Health Act (1983)
Service Development
* Initiate and participate in development activities within the clinical area.
* Ensure where possible service users are involved in the future service planning and delivery.
Professional Ethics
* Demonstrate commitment to ongoing professional development through participation in internal and external development opportunities identified in supervision and PDR.
* Maintain professional portfolio in line with Health Professions Council requirements.
* Develop and maintain links with others in specialist area of work, utilising regional and national networks.
* Keep abreast of new initiatives and recommendations from relevant organisations ensuring that practice is evidence based and current.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications and Training
* Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent dietetic qualification
* Registered to practice by HCPC
* Member of the British Dietetic Association
* Evidence of ongoing CPD training.
* Post- Graduate Courses. ( MSc)
* Students Supervisors course.
* Driving licence
Experience
* Experience of specified client group.
* Minimum of 3 years post qualifications in specified area ie. Mental Health, Learning Disabilities, Physical Health and Forensics.
* Ability to manage own caseload and work independently across sites
* Evidence of additional work experience.
* Experience in supervision of staff.
* Experience of liaising and negotiating with a range of mental health professionals.
