Head of Design & Pre-Construction (MEP)

Our client is a rapidly growing MEP business operating as part of a well-established and financially secure wider group. With a strong pipeline of residential and infrastructure-led projects, they are now looking to appoint a Head of MEP Design & Pre-Construction to lead and shape their technical offering during an important growth phase.
This is a senior leadership opportunity within a business that is scaling quickly but still retains agility and influence at management level. You will not be inheriting a rigid structure, you will be helping to define and improve it.
The successful candidate will lead a team of 4–6 Design Engineers and Design Managers, overseeing MEP design delivery across RIBA Stages 3–5 and ensuring technical excellence, coordination and commercial alignment from concept through to construction.
Applicants will be considered from MEP Contracting, MEP Consultancy or Main Contracting backgrounds, provided experience is firmly rooted within MEP design and delivery.
Roles and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Leading and developing an in-house MEP design and pre-construction team
• Overseeing design development across RIBA Stages 3–5, ensuring compliance, coordination and buildability
• Acting as the senior technical authority across live bids and secured projects
• Managing relationships with external design consultants and specialist supply chain partners
• Ensuring effective communication and technical alignment with the wider parent group
• Supporting commercial teams during tender stages, ensuring designs are deliverable and commercially viable
• Driving continuous improvement in design standards, processes and internal coordination
