About the Role
Support the Smoke Free Pregnancy service at MCHT by contacting women who smoke during pregnancy, offering behavioural support, nicotine replacement therapy, and relevant resources.
Key Responsibilities
* Contact and support pregnant women and their partners who are tobacco dependent.
* Provide face‑to‑face and telephone behavioural support.
* Supply and advise on nicotine replacement therapy and use CO monitoring.
* Maintain confidentiality, comply with Data Protection and Information Governance, and accurately record and report activities.
* Organise diary, workload and manage caseload effectively.
* Use motivational interviewing techniques and demonstrate empathy to help clients maintain change.
* Handle difficult and sensitive conversations, adapting to learning difficulties, mental health, language barriers, or age‑related communication challenges.
* Co‑operate with the maternity team and broader clinical team.
* Use social prescribing skills to refer patients to support services as needed.
* Deliver on national key performance indicators and reporting to external agencies.
* Develop and disseminate publicity and support materials in partnership with communications team and contribute to national campaigns such as Stoptober and No Smoking Day.
Qualifications and Skills
* Full UK driving licence.
* Experience and knowledge of motivational interviewing.
* Experience providing behavioural cessation support and using nicotine replacement therapy.
* Knowledge of CO monitoring devices.
* Social prescribing skills and ability to refer patients to community resources.
* Strong organization, communication and record‑keeping skills.
* Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality.
