Turn your desk job into a front-row seat on groundbreaking life sciences projects.
At BakerHicks, we’re delivering some of the most technically challenging projects in the life sciences and process sectors – and we’re looking for a Quantity Surveyor who’s ready to be right where the action is.
You’ll still be doing the core QS work you know best – valuations, forecasting, procurement, reporting – but instead of being tucked away, you’ll be embedded with the project teams on site in Barnard Castle four days a week. You’ll see progress unfold, have a direct line to decision-makers, and play a key role in keeping projects running smoothly.
Why This Role Stands Out
* On-site perspective – see the projects you’re managing come to life.
* High-value, regulated sector work – contribute to life sciences projects with real impact.
* Collaborative culture – work closely with engineers, planners, and commercial leads.
* Variety – from procurement to cost tracking, no two weeks are the same.
Your Responsibilities
* Managing subcontract procurement and administration.
* Preparing valuations, tracking variations, and updating cost reports.
* Maintaining commercial compliance and documentation.
* Monitoring spend and assisting with forecasting.
* Liaising daily with on-site delivery teams.
What You’ll Bring
* Experience in construction or engineering commercial processes.
* Familiarity with NEC contracts (NEC4 a bonus).
* Organised, detail-focused approach.
* Ability to build strong working relationships.
* Commitment to being on site in Barnard Castle 4 days per week.
