Legal Director – Disease
Location: London (Hybrid)
Role Summary
Clyde & Co is seeking an experienced Legal Director to join its market‑leading Disease team. This is a senior role for a specialist litigator with deep expertise in disease claims, ideally within the insurance sector. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading complex, high‑value matters, supporting clients strategically, and contributing to the growth and development of the team. The role offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of disease litigation, including emerging risk areas, within a collaborative, international firm recognised for its sector expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Take responsibility for the conduct of complex, high‑value disease claims, including EL/PL disease matters and legacy and emerging disease risks.
Provide strategic and commercially focused advice to insurer and corporate clients.
Act as a trusted adviser to key clients, developing strong, long‑term relationships.
Ensure matters are managed efficiently, profitably and in line with client SLAs and firm standards.
Technical Excellence & Leadership
Demonstrate advanced technical expertise in disease litigation, including contentious, procedural and evidential aspects.
Supervise and mentor associates, senior associates and other team members, providing clear guidance and development support.
Play an active role in knowledge sharing, technical training and thought leadership within the Disease team and wider firm.
Business Development & Profile Raising
Contribute to business development initiatives, pitches and tenders.
Support client relationship management and cross‑selling opportunities within Clyde & Co.
Assist with profile‑raising activities such as seminars, publications and client training.
Team & Firm Contribution
Promote a positive, inclusive and high‑performance team culture.
Support the strategic objectives of the Disease practice and the Manchester office.
Work collaboratively across offices and practice groups, including national and international colleagues.
Essential Skills, Experience & Qualifications
England & Wales qualified solicitor with significant post‑qualification experience in disease litigation.
Strong background in acting for insurers and/or large corporate defendants.
Proven ability to manage complex caseloads with limited supervision.
Excellent drafting, advocacy support and negotiation skills.
Strong commercial awareness and client‑focused approach.
Experience supervising and developing junior lawyers.
Desirable
Experience of leading or contributing to major or complex group claims or legacy disease portfolios.
Involvement in business development or client relationship management.
Sector knowledge aligned with Clyde & Co’s core markets, including insurance.
