Assistant Psychologist – Neuropsychology (12 month Fixed Term Contract)

Job Summary
Band 5, Part‑time, 12 month fixed‑term contract. Base in Brookfields Hospital or Hinchingbrooke Hospital, with potential coverage across the county. Closing date: 22 June 2026. Salary: £32,073 to £39,043 a year pro‑rata. Reference number: 310‑OPAC‑8019270.
Responsibilities
* Support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients of the Integrated Stroke ESD and Community Neuro Rehabilitation Service across inpatient and community settings.
* Provide psychological assessment and neuropsychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified psychologist, working independently according to an agreed plan and within the team’s policies and procedures.
* Assist in clinically related administration, conducting audits, collecting data and statistics, and developing audit and/or research projects and teaching.
* Attend psychology supervision on a weekly basis and engage in ongoing CPD as agreed with supervisor and professional manager.
* Travel independently around the county, meeting strict time deadlines; holder of a full UK driving licence and access to a personal vehicle is required.
Qualifications
Essential – Education / Qualifications
* Upper second‑class honours degree or higher in psychology.
* Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.
Essential – Experience
* Some experience working with people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities in a health or social services setting.
* Experience of working within a multi‑disciplinary team.
* Some experience of conducting psychological assessments (neuropsychological/standardised assessments).
Essential – Skills & Abilities
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to communicate in highly emotive settings and deliver sensitive information.
* Ability to accept and use supervision appropriately, effectively and reflectively.
* Interpersonally calm and able to diffuse difficult, volatile situations.
* Ability to work effectively with the multidisciplinary team while maintaining boundaries.
* Ability to work independently (planning own workload), reliably and consistently, managing work at regular intervals.
* Good organisational skills, including time management and flexibility.
* Experience using computers for databases or data analysis, especially SPSS for Windows and Excel.
Essential – Knowledge & Understanding
* Some knowledge of neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation theory.
* Ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to people with neurological conditions.
* Some knowledge of behavioural management advice.
* Understanding of the needs and difficulties of people living with long‑term neurological conditions, including emotional adjustment issues.
* Some knowledge of models regarding emotional adjustment to long‑term conditions.
Desirable – Education / Qualifications
* Further postgraduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.
Desirable – Experience
* Previous experience of an assistant psychologist post or equivalent.
* Previous experience working with people with neurological conditions.
* Lived experience of mental health.
Desirable – Skills & Abilities
* Experience of delivering evidence‑based psychologically informed interventions.
* Experience of conducting service evaluation, audit or research.
* Experience of working directly with people with neurological conditions.
* Experience of working with carers.
Desirable – Knowledge & Understanding
* Knowledge of the psychological issues relevant to existential issues.
* Knowledge of Mindfulness and Compassion Focused Therapy.
Physical Requirements
* Must have access to a personal car and the ability to drive independently around the locality.
Other Requirements
* Willingness to be flexible in approach and attitude.
* Able to travel within the locality.
* Advanced keyboard skills.
* Previous use of clinical systems such as SystemOne (desirable).
