Job Title: Assembly Technician

Job Summary:
The Assembly Technician will be responsible for the precise assembly and integration of electric powertrains into gliders (engineless cabbed chassis). This includes the installation of various components and systems such as batteries, motors, power distribution units (PDUs), HVAC systems, cab components, wiring looms, high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) cabling, and other specified parts. The role requires technical skills and attention to detail to ensure the efficient electrification of custom heavy goods vehicles (HGVs).
In-house training is provided. Not all skills below are necessary but are preferred.
Key Responsibilities (in-house training provided)
Radiator:
* Install and connect radiators for cooling systems.
* Ensure proper fit and secure mounting.
Auxiliary Systems:
* Install auxiliary components and systems as required.
* Ensure integration with other vehicle systems.
Pneumatic Systems:
* Install pneumatic components and systems.
* Ensure proper functioning of air-based systems.
Fuse Box:
* Install and connect fuse boxes.
* Ensure all electrical circuits are properly fused and protected.
Propulsion:
* Install propulsion systems including motors and drive units.
* Ensure alignment and secure mounting.
Battery Mounting:
* Securely install battery mounts onto the chassis.
* Ensure stability and safety of battery packs.
Battery Housing:
* Install protective housings for battery packs.
* Ensure proper sealing and protection against environmental factors.
Electric Power Take Off (EPTO):
* Install and connect EPTO systems.
* Ensure integration with vehicle's electrical and mechanical systems.
Cabin:
* Install and assemble cabin components onto the chassis.
* Ensure all cab systems are properly connected and functional.
Fasteners and Fixings:
* Use appropriate fasteners and fixings for all components.
* Ensure all parts are securely attached.
Power Distribution (PDU):
* Install and connect power distribution units.
* Ensure proper distribution of electrical power throughout the vehicle.
Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC):
* Install HVAC systems in the cab.
* Ensure proper integration and functionality.
Low-Voltage (LV) System:
* Install and connect LV cabling for auxiliary systems.
* Ensure proper functioning of all LV electrical components.
Cooling System:
* Install and connect cooling systems.
* Ensure proper operation and integration with other vehicle systems.
Chassis Metalwork:
* Install metalwork components on the chassis.
* Ensure structural integrity and proper fitment.
Battery Thermal Management:
* Install thermal management systems for batteries.
* Ensure proper temperature regulation and safety.
Third-Party Body Components:
* Install third-party body components as specified.
* Ensure proper fit and integration with vehicle systems.
Exterior Bodywork:
* Install exterior body panels and components.
* Ensure proper alignment and secure attachment.
Testing Equipment/Jigs:
* Use testing equipment and jigs to verify component installations.
* Ensure accuracy and quality of assembly processes.
High-Voltage (HV) System:
* Install and connect HV cabling according to safety standards.
* Ensure insulation and secure connections.
Hydraulics:
* Install hydraulic systems and components.
* Ensure proper integration and functionality.
Start of Line/End of Line:
* Participate in start-of-line and end-of-line processes.
* Ensure proper documentation and handover of completed vehicles.
Decals/Badges/Labels:
* Apply decals, badges, and labels as required.
* Ensure proper placement and adherence.
Batteries:
* Handle and install battery packs.
* Ensure proper connection and secure mounting.
Brakes:
* Install and connect brake systems.
* Ensure proper function and safety.
Suspension:
* Install suspension components.
* Ensure proper alignment and function.
Vehicle Configuration:
* Configure vehicle systems according to specifications.
* Ensure all settings and adjustments are correctly applied.
Supplier Part CAD:
* Utilise CAD drawings for accurate installation of supplier parts.
* Ensure all components match design specifications.
Qualifications:
Education:
* GCSE or equivalent.
* Technical certification or vocational training in automotive, electrical, or mechanical fields is preferred.
Experience:
* Minimum of 2 years of experience in vehicle assembly or a related field.
* Experience with electric vehicles and high-voltage systems is highly desirable.
Skills:
* Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and schematics.
* Strong mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
* Knowledge of electrical systems and components.
* Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
* Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
* Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
* Good communication and teamwork skills.
Physical Requirements:
* Ability to lift and move heavy components.
* Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and working in confined spaces.
* Ability to work with high-voltage systems safely.
Work Environment:
* The role will be based in the production facility based in Brighouse.
* This is a fast-paced role, required to meet project deadlines.
