The senior specialist in Persian Language Training within Foreign Languages Wing, responsible for course development and maintenance, as well as business management for the Persian Department.
The role of the Persian Department is to deliver Persian language training and assurance in accordance with the Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT) and Defence Language Training requirements.
The appointment also includes line management duties to all Department Burnham Lecturers and supervision on contracted tutors.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Strategic Command is going through a significant transformation programme which aims to improve the way the Command conducts its business and delivers for Defence and the nation. Because of this, all posts within Strategic Command Headquarters and in time the wider organisation, are/will be subject to review and potential changes as we continuously improve across the period of the transformation programme. These changes may be minor or could be more substantive and will generate new opportunities. Throughout, the Command’s transformation programme is committed to following the MOD’s framework on managing and supporting people through the change process and places an emphasis on early and open consultation and engagement with the Command’s personnel and Trade Unions.

As an SBL (Senior Burnham Lecturer) you will undertake a range of activities relating to the delivery of Farsi language training to defence personnel. Working alongside other BLs (and supervised by the Principal Burnham Lecturer) you will primarily deliver Farsi language training to a variety of students, undertake design and development of course materials and play an important role in quality assurance activities which ensure the continuous improvement of language delivery.
As part of our future delivery strategy, you will play an important role in supporting the shift from face-to-face learning to a more blended approach. As such, you will be expected to stay up to date on the latest research, delivery approaches and technologies to support language learning.

Person specification
Applicants must hold a degree level qualification or equivalent (Level 5 on the Regular Qualifications Framework - RQF) in any subject.
Applicants must also hold a teaching qualification equivalent to Level 5 on RQF.
Applicants must have native or near-native level language ability in Persian across all 4 skills (Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing). This will be assessed at interview.
Applicants Must Also Demonstrate
* experience of teaching a foreign language.
* experience of delivering Farsi language training at a variety of levels, both online and in the classroom.
* experience of course-writing and materials development.
* experience of managing a team.
This needs to be outlined in a Personal Statement (750 words) submitted with the application.
Desirable Skills/Experience
* It is desirable forthe teaching qualification to be in the field of teaching a foreign language but not essential.
* A Level 6 (or higher qualification) such as a PGCE is desirable but not essential.
Qualifications
Qualified to degree level (in any subject) or equivalent – essential
Native or near-native level language ability in Persian across all 4 skills (Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing) – tested at interview - essential
Teaching qualification equivalent to Level 5 on the RQF – essential
Evidence of qualification will be required at interview.

English & Farsi language proficiency – This post requires a native or near native command of both Farsi and English languages. This will be tested as part of the interview process, both verbally and in writing.
