Offer description

Can You Read a Schematic and Wire It Up Perfectly? We Need You.

Let's cut straight to it — we've been searching for someone with a very specific superpower: the ability to look at a wiring diagram and just... get it. Not just the soldering (though yes, that too). Not just the PCB work (great, keep it). We're talking wiring. Harness assembly. Cable routing. Crimp connections that would make an IPC inspector weep with joy.

If that's you — read on. This one's written with you in mind.

Prototype Wire Person — Surrey — Permanent Cutting-edge defence & technology manufacturer

We're a well-established, well-respected engineering company building genuinely fascinating bespoke kit — and our prototyping team needs a hands-on wire person who can take a schematic from paper to prototype without breaking a sweat.

THE WIRING BIT (yes, we're leading with this)

This role lives and breathes wiring. If you can do the following, you're already ahead of the pack:

* Read and interpret wiring schematics and technical diagrams — this is non-negotiable and where we need you to truly shine
* Build cable harnesses and assemblies to a high standard
* Route cables neatly, logically, and in a way that the next engineer won't curse you for
* Crimp with confidence and consistency
* Follow wiring diagrams precisely through prototype builds and design modifications
* Work to IPC-A-620 wiring standards (or be keen to train toward it)

We'll be straight with you — their will be a practical trade test, and the wiring element is where it counts most. If you can demonstrate you're solid on schematics and harness work, you'll stand out immediately.

THE REST OF THE ROLE

Beyond the wiring, you'll also be:

* Assembling electromechanical components from engineering drawings and BOMs
* Soldering to IPC-A-610 standards (yes, this matters too — but you knew that)
* Building and modifying prototypes in a fast-moving R&D environment
* Performing rework and design changes during development stages
* Conducting basic inspection and continuity testing
* Working closely with engineers to troubleshoot build and design issues
* Keeping a clean, safe, organised bench (we don't think this needs explaining

YOU'LL NEED:

* Proven, hands-on experience in wiring and cable assembly — this is the headline skill
* Confidence reading wiring schematics and technical drawings
* Skilled crimping and soldering hands
* Great attention to detail — precision matters here
* The ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Eligibility to obtain UK security clearance

Bonus points for:

* R&D or prototype environment experience
* IPC-A-610 / IPC/WHMA-A-620 knowledge or certification
* Mechanical assembly experience
* Surface mount work

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU:

Paid overtime or TOIL — up to 24 extra days per year Flexible working around core hours — no 8am starts Private medical — 50+ clinics and hospitals nationwide 24 days holiday + bank holidays + Christmas closedown Generous pension — 14% total (7% employer matched) Cycle to work scheme Tech salary loans Relocation package available Clear career progression — Engineer → Senior → Principal → Technical Director

This role is subject to UK security clearance. Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK.

Ready to prove your wiring is as good as your soldering? Send us your CV and let's talk.
