This role sits in the Heritage and UK City of Culture Team and is focused on delivering DCMS’s UK City of Culture priorities. The UK City of Culture competition is run by DCMS, inviting places across the UK to set out their vision for culture-led regeneration. It is UK-wide programme developed in collaboration with the devolved administrations.
The competition is a transformational opportunity for places and communities to put culture and creativity at the heart of their plans. Bradford is the 2025 titleholder. Its fantastic programme celebrates Bradford’s rich culture and heritage, and diverse communities.
The Heritage side of the team focuses on helping places and communities to preserve and maintain the buildings and landscapes that matter to them.
We are a flexible team and work to ensure the best outcomes and deliver on our Secretary of State’s priorities:
* Growth and good jobs in every place
* A more socially cohesive country with an inclusive national story
* Richer lives with choices and opportunities for all
This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join the UK City of Culture Team. The post holder will play a key role in preparations for and the running of the next UK City of Culture competition. This will involve working collaboratively across DCMS, Whitehall and with the Devolved Governments to advise the DCMS Secretary of State on the best approach for the competition.
Alongside this, there will also be the opportunity to work on the development of new policy aligned to the DCMS Secretary of State’s priorities.
Key deliverables:
* Lead on updating the competition criteria so it aligns with government priorities and lessons learnt; and support panel bid assessment against the criteria.
* Develop a credible plan for engaging the Territorial Offices and Devolved Governments, and play a key role in this engagement.
* Develop and implement a plan for recruiting the independent expert advisory panel; engage the panel once recruited on key issues.
* Effective grant fund management and engagement with grantees.
* Analyse information to recommend policy options, and provide high quality advice to DCMS Seniors and Ministers on key decisions.
* Apply light touch project management techniques to ensure key tasks are identified and timelines/milestones are met.
* Opportunity to contribute to the development of new policy to support the team’s work in other areas.
