Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join a busy clinical team as an Assistant Orthopaedic Technician.

The role involves supporting trained staff in the application, removal, and maintenance of casts, splints, and other orthopaedic appliances, while ensuring a high standard of patient care and comfort.

As part of the fracture clinic, they will demonstrate high standards of expertise in orthopaedic splinting techniques for both adults and children and to provide technical and professional support in clinical areas and on the wards.

Required to work across all hospital sites.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for delivering high standards of patient care within the Plaster Room and supporting the wider orthopaedic and multidisciplinary team. Duties include educating patients on aftercare and cast management, maintaining accurate clinical records, applying plaster casts and orthotic appliances, assisting with wound care, and supporting outpatient clinics.

The role also involves maintaining equipment and stock levels, ensuring a clean and safe clinical environment, and reporting risks, incidents, and concerns appropriately. The post holder must work within their level of competence, recognising personal limitations and adhering to clinical governance and safety standards.

Interviews for this position will be held in person ONLY at the hospital site. Remote interviews will not be available.

9. NVQ level 2, 3 or equivalent
10. Willing to work towards BOA Casting certificate when a training post becomes available

Experience

11. Experience of working with children and adults.
12. Experience of working in a team.
