About the role
BritNed operate a HVDC interconnector that connect the UK's energy system to the energy system of the Netherlands, allowing energy to be imported to and exported from the UK.
National Grid Ventures is currently recruiting for an Asset Engineer on site at our Interconnector at the Isle of Grain.
The role will be reporting to the Asset Operations and Maintenance Manager, with a responsibility of overseeing the physical assets throughout their lifecycle, focusing on maximising performance, extending lifespan, and minimising costs.
The role includes developing maintenance strategies, ensuring regulatory compliance, and planning for repairs, upgrades, or replacements to maintain safety and operational availability/reliability of the BritNed HVDC Interconnector, that connects the United Kingdom to the Netherlands.
This role is based on a 24/7 operational site, and you will be required to participate in a standby rota as an escalation point for site incidents and interventions.
Due to the location, you must also be able to drive.
What you'll need
* Lead the identification and formulation of strategic initiatives specific to electrical assets.
* Manage changes to previously agreed strategies in order to meet customer requirements and/or business needs.
* Recommend asset condition based capital projects to internal National Grid management and seek approval from external stakeholders.
* Conduct quality assurance to plans and designs, including but not limited to, operational diagrams and handbooks.
* Provide proactive communication of key delivery timescales required by site and construction staff.
* Identify and inform management of any safety related issues that could lead to incidents or impacts on third parties.
* Manage any reported data errors of key documentation and displays.
What you'll do
* Maintaining and reviewing the asset management risk register and make recommendations as to when, due to its significance or impact, an Operational level risk should be escalated to being included in the business level risk register.
* Support the Operations Management Team in continually monitoring availability and reliability across the interconnector to produce trend analysis and fault statistics.
* Liaise with other Interconnector businesses and Construction/Development departments on best practice
* Work closely with the Asset and Operation Managers on asset management business plans and
procedures
* Provide high quality asset condition information to provide input to future operational investment
plans.
* Contribute to the development of budgets and plans for asset maintenance and investment.
* Support the short/long term planning activities associated with outages including analysing asset
performance data to prioritise works.
* Assist the continued delivery of the spare parts management strategy
* Provide support in the delivery of asset management and maintenance policies monitoring the performance of the maintenance contractor against contractual performance indicators.
* Manage the delivery of specific Asset lifecycle refurbishment/replacement projects, cost effectiveness, with high standards of environmental & safety performance.
* Understand and work with BritNed teams and our suppliers to develop and improve operational Asset equipment.
* Interrogate systems and data to aid fault finding, seek out and report potential issues before they arise, follow-up ongoing faults or equipment outages with the relevant teams.
* Make initial investigations and minor interventions as able within competence and safety management system requirements.
* Participate in a standby rota. To attend site when required outside of business hours and act as escalation point with emergency services/responders.

A competitive salary between £54,090 - £63,940 per annum– dependent on capability.
