Job description: Salary dependent on experience to be discussed at interview Job Description JOB TITLE: PHARMACY TECHNICIANRESPONSIBLE TO: PharmacistRESPONSIBLE FOR: N/AJOB PURPOSE: To work under the supervision of the Pharmacist to ensure the safe, accurate and timely supply of prescriptions to patients. mandatory - registered with GPhC as pharmacy technician To provide technical and administrative support to the Clinical Pharmacists and Clinicians. Support the Reception teams with complex queries around medication from patients. Complete audits around patient safety and cost effective prescribing and present the information for sharing with the clinical team.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Work with the Pharmacist and Clinicians in accordance with agreed practiceprescribing standard operating procedures. Process repeat medication requests, including the conversion of acute requests torepeat medicines, changing quantities of medicines. Issuing prescriptions in line with agreed clinical protocols and within yourcompetency Liaise with secondary and primary care colleagues to ensure correct medicines arecontinued following the transfer of care. Monitor practice adherence to the repeat prescribing policy To assist the Pharmacist with data analysis of prescribing behavior in line with NICE guidance and local clinical commissioning directives.
To assist with the development and review of medicine audits To maintain and develop medicines communication to staff Provide a contact for patients and colleagues with medication queries. Use practice and CCG templates to record near patients monitoring for high riskdrugs. Identify blood tests, recalls and reviews using established protocols and forwardthese to the appropriate clinician. Liaise with Clinicians and staff to resolve prescribing queries.
Review hospital discharge notifications and outpatient hospital letters andreconcile medication against current repeats, flagging up and correcting discrepancies. Promote safe use of medication, reporting of medication related incidents andproactively preventing safeguarding incidents. Observe the principles of clinical governance when developing policies, protocols,guidelines, SOPs and procedures. Support practice prescribing budgets by on-going monitoring, audit and analysis of drug use and support practices in reviewing, developing and enhancing cost-effective prescribing.
This includes staying aware of latest QIPP and other cost targets. Help review medication with the Pharmacists and make recommendation for prescribing changes to improve outcome and ensure prescribing of the most effective product. Project work/prescribing initiatives under the support of the Pharmacist To adhere to strict confidentiality policies at all times. Attend local meetings seeking to improve access to medicines or repeatprescribing processes.
