Key Responsibilities
* Assist clinical staff with basic procedures, including chaperoning during intimate examinations and acting as an advocate for the patient.
* Perform clinical tasks following appropriate competency training and assessment (e.g., pregnancy testing, urinalysis, blood pressure monitoring, condom demonstration, venepuncture).
* Maintain safe hygiene levels, adhering to Trust Infection Control Policies (gloves, protective clothing, hand washing).
* Comply with disposal of sharps and clinical waste procedures.
* Handle spillages of bodily fluids and needlestick injuries in accordance with Trust policy.
* Report incidents and raise any concerns in the service.
* Ensure an appropriate supply of equipment is available prior to each clinic and is set up accordingly.
* After each clinic, leave all areas safe and tidy, stocking stationary equipment and leaflets for the next session.
* Maintain accurate record‑keeping and demonstrate understanding of its importance.
* Observe safe practice when using VDUs.
* Perform clerical and administrative duties as instructed by the CNS.
* Input, store, and retrieve routine information within the electronic patient record system.
* Assist with the collection of statistical information and data for the service and Department of Health.
* Monitor stock levels within clinical/treatment areas and place orders as needed.
* Record patient observations (height, weight, BMI) and report them to clinicians.
* Support clinical staff with treatments and investigations as required.
* Be aware of safeguarding responsibilities regarding children and vulnerable adults, acting in the patient’s best interest at all times.
* Chaperone patients during clinical examinations, ensuring privacy and dignity.
Other Duties
* Assist in general clerical activities to support the clinical environment and patient care (e.g., reception duties, answering the telephone, taking messages, filing).
Confidentiality and Data Protection
All employees who have access to personal data relating to patients or employees will be aware of their responsibilities under the Data Protection Act 1998 and will abide by its eight principles. Breaches may result in disciplinary action and criminal charges.
Health and Safety
Employees must adhere to duties under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, all relevant regulations and Trust policies. Training and safe practice are mandatory.
