Location: Poole, Dorset
Pay Rate: £20-£30 per hour (dependent on experience)
Duration: 9‑month temporary contract
The Opportunity
We are currently seeking an experienced Buyer to join our Manufacturing Procurement team on a temporary basis, covering maternity leave. This is a key role supporting Manufacturing Operations, offering the chance to make an immediate impact within a fast‑paced, complex manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain continuous communication with suppliers to build strong relationships and ensure on‑time delivery of components
Manage supplier open orders, expediting where required to meet planned requirements
Convert daily requisitions into purchase orders
Identify and drive cost‑saving opportunities within the supply chain
Create return orders from reject notes
Take a proactive approach to shortages, sourcing alternative suppliers or working with Engineering on alternative solutions
Support Goods Inwards by resolving receipt discrepancies efficiently
Provide tactical and transactional support to the Operational Buying team and Commodity Managers
Work collaboratively within an established team of procurement professionals
Engage effectively with internal stakeholders across the business
Support payment processes and resolve invoice and payment issues promptly
Contribute to a continuous improvement culture, identifying opportunities to enhance existing processes#
Essential Requirements
Self‑motivated with a flexible and proactive approach
Strong negotiation skills
Ability to prioritise and balance a varied workload
Sound commercial awareness with a solid understanding of purchasing principles
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong interpersonal abilities
High level of attention to detail
Numerate and PC literate
Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills
Desirable Experience
Minimum of 2 years' experience within a procurement or buying function
Previous experience in a complex manufacturing or processing environment
Experience using SAP
