The core competencies will be evaluated at the start of employment; the line manager/supervisor will identify and support learning opportunities for the post holder. Each competency will be viewed as a development goal. Assessment will be conducted through observation of clinical practice, feedback from members of the MDT, patients and families, discussion, and constructive feedback. The postholder must be able to provide evidence of how they achieved each domain. Once all core competencies are achieved to their development goals, the postholder may be moved from band 7 to band 8a. Further details of this process will be shared with the postholder at the start of employment and via the Core Competencies document.
The responsibilities include:
1. Provision of specialist assessments: Conduct assessments with clients referred to the team based on the appropriate use, interpretation, and integration of complex data from various sources including self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations, and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members, and others involved in the client’s care, when appropriate.
2. Formulation and implementation of plans: Develop and implement intervention and management plans for young people's mental health problems, based on an appropriate conceptual framework of the client’s issues, employing evidence-based methods across various care settings.
3. Implementation of interventions: Carry out interventions for individuals, carers, families, and groups, including adjusting formulations and drawing upon different explanatory models while maintaining provisional hypotheses.
4. Evaluation and decision-making: Make informed decisions about intervention options, considering theoretical and therapeutic models, as well as complex factors related to the individual's, family's, or group's historical and developmental contexts.
