Department Overview To lead the engineering development of concept vehicles and package integration to ensure functional and geometric compatibility, from initiation of the concept phase through to the conclusion of the virtual series. Job Purpose Technical lead of geometrical concept layout of vehicles and vehicle level sub-systems Key Duties and Responsibilities Lead the development of mechanical layout for new vehicle concepts and the integration into these to be compatible with functional and geometric targets. Support integration of CAE virtual workstreams with concept package development. Support concept commodity selection via engineering concept matrix population with the engineering commodity owners and attribute areas thereby generating package layouts compatible with program targets. Generate and maintain primary and secondary hardpoint layouts and release as CAD data in line with platform / program check points and gateways. Aid development of platform package strategies to enable the most efficient use of tooling and engineering investment across multiple programs. Provide leadership / support to cross functional teams to resolve cross functional package issues, owning/chairing regular zone review & package meetings as required. Provide escalation for package / layout / commodity issues that affect cost, quality or timing. Support commonality assumptions/development via geometric studies to establish a proposed PMXU, whilst enabling the most efficient use of tooling and engineering investment across multiple programs. Support vehicle engineering teams in platform attribute and bandwidth target setting. Define the occupancy package with support from the Ergonomics team Work with the design team to confirm vehicle package targets for the programs. Critically assess benchmark vehicles across a broad range of attributes as well as their mechanical layout. Provide expertise and conduct initial conceptual studies of new product proposals/developments. Create and maintain concept digital bucks. Experience and Qualifications Essential experience Proven experience working in either vehicle concepts, vehicle package or studio engineering within premium automotive sector. CAD creation (NX preferred). Use of CAD visualization tools. Working in cross functional teams, preferably in a vehicle integration role. Preferred experience Experience of directly or indirectly leading engineering teams.
