Your Role in Synergy's Success
HS&E Specialist will support and advance our commitment to a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace. The role will drive compliance with regulatory requirements, implement HS&E programs, and foster a strong safety culture across all levels of the organization. Partnering with leadership and frontline teams to identify risks, develop and deliver training, monitor performance, and champion continuous improvement in health, safety, and environmental practices. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, knowledgeable in HS&E regulations and standards, and passionate about ensuring the well-being of people and the planet.
How You Will Contribute:
* Work flexibly and collaboratively with the Management Team and Staff to be a role model for demonstrating Company Values and standards of behaviour and professionalism.
* Drive cultural change in the organisation by proactively improving the HSE regime through people.
* Part of the Global Carbery HSE community and implement agreed global programs.
* Lead the delivery of the site HSE plan.
* Organise, chair, minute the Quarterly HSE steering meeting and monthly safety committee
* Generate HSE KPl's and report on the performance of the business and departments within the business.
* Working with internal and external stakeholders as the need arises.
* Establish and maintain robust (HSE) related processes for the business.
* Maintain up to date and relevant HSE knowledge.
* Lead and support the creation and development of HSE process documentation
* Lead, organise and manage the internal HSE audit and development of internal risk assessment regime
* Develop and maintain strong SOP management to ensure safety compliance
* Maintain training compliance for synergy staff, liaising with department heads
* Identify, lead and manage H&S improvement actions from risk assessments, good catch's, new processes
* Manage and maintain an effective COSSH system.
* Manage the provision of first aid skills, occupational health screening, risk assessments and control of PPE.
* Identify, implement, and provide all HSE related training requirements for all staff.
* Manage the Accident and near-miss reporting process: RIDDOR reporting; accident investigations and corrective actions.
* Lead & Control Emergency Response Planning.
* Personal injury and civil claims management.
* To train and present safety needs across all levels of the site
* Pest Control Services.
* Fire Safety Contract and PPMs.
* Asbestos Surveys and Water Risk Assessments.
* HAZOP Risk Assessments.
* Lead on Energy and Environmental programmes and awareness programmes on site.
* Manage and control the site legislative requirements for any emissions, effluent etc.
* ESOS - submission of data to the Environment Agency
* Packaging Compliance - annual submission of packaging data to waste management company
* Work to achieve year on year cost reductions and/ or value additions in environmental disposal, utility costs and consumption of utilities.
Key Ingredients for Success
Essential requirements:
* Demonstrable working experience in implementation of Safety, Health and Environment
* Degree in Food Science, Engineering, or related subject
* Track record of achieving results
* Keen attention to detail and accuracy
* Effective communicator with all stakeholders, both internally and externally.
* Ability to deal with complexity and change, prioritise effectively, and deliver within short timescales
Desirable Requirements:
* Experience with Hearts & Minds programs
* Experience with implementation of Continuous Improvement programs
* Capability to take a broader responsibility in the future
