We’re really pleased to have opened Aurora Summerfields School in April 2023 in Wilmslow with a proposed capacity of 50 students.
This is a brand new independent specialist school for young people aged 5 to 19, who face a range of challenges in accessing education, these challenges are typically associated with Autism spectrum conditions. We’re currently looking for an experienced Food Tech Teacher (Unqualified) to join us in September 2025.
The Role
The purpose to this role is to provide outstanding teaching and learning of Food Technology, leading to appropriate accreditation for young people on a life skills pathway. You’ll be designing hands-on, engaging learning opportunities that build young people’s skills, knowledge and understanding for lifelong learning.
Key Duties include:
1. Prepare and deliver structured food technology lessons tailored to the individual needs of pupils with SEN, including those with Autism and ADHD.
2. Adapt materials, tasks and instructions to meet diverse learning styles, sensory needs and communication abilities.
3. Ensure safe use of equipment and maintain high standards of cleanliness and food hygiene at all times.
4. Use visual supports and other resources to support understanding and engagement.
5. Implement individual behaviour plans, following the student support plan, effectively using de-escalation techniques when required.
6. Support pupils in developing practical cooking and self-help skills appropriate to their age and ability.
7. Plan and prepare engaging lessons based on agreed schemes of work leading to agreed accreditation or qualifications.
8. Ensure that all students are given quality, accessible feedback in order to make effective progress.
9. Observe and document pupil progress and development, contributing to progress reports and qualification portfolios.
10. Contribute to the development of key skills for all students (Maths, English, life skills)
11. Liaise with teaching assistants, the clinical team, SENDCO, families and other stakeholders to ensure consistent support for each pupil.
Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate:
12. No formal qualification required but an understanding of food preparation and health and safety standards would benefit the suitable candidate.
13. Relevant knowledge and experience of pupils with SEND relevant to provision/needs of cohort
14. Experience planning and delivering engaging, practical, differentiated and hands-on lessons including the development of skills for life
15. Experience of building positive and trusted relationships
16. Good numeracy and literacy skills
17. Competent ICT skills
