A rare opportunity has arisen within the Barrow Town NORWOOD District nursing team for a community Clinical Support Worker. The role requires flexibility over days, weekends, evenings and nights.
As a CSW in the community team you will be able to demonstrate excellent communication with patients, relatives and professionals as well as experience or willingness to train in a range of extended clinical skills including but not limited to basic observations, venepuncture, skin care, palliative care and sub‑cutaneous injections. You will be working seeing patients on your own in their homes as part of a close and supportive team that prides themselves on a high standard of patient care.
Responsibilities include:
* Provide basic nursing care to patients in the community setting working as part of the district nursing team.
* Carry out an extended role of clinical tasks and skills while working unaccompanied.
* Assist the Clinical Team with data entry and administrative duties.
* Provide high standard evidenced-based nursing care to a wide variety of patients in their own homes or a care home setting.
* Provide clinical care as directed by a qualified nurse but not under direct supervision (e.g., certain dressings, catheter care, bowel care).
* Record patient observations, collect specimens, and perform some diagnostic procedures.
* Actively seek to promote health, individually and to patients and carers.
* Participate in achieving measurable standards of care and in clinical audit.
* Prioritise own allocated workload and deal with daily changes using own initiative.
* Deal with incoming messages for the team and ensure these are dealt with appropriately and provide admin support as required.
* Order stock and equipment and participate in additional clerical duties.
* Communicate daily with patients, carers, relatives, members of the primary health care team and outside agencies.
We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of general hospital services, with full emergency departments, critical/coronary care units and various consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of general hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non‑life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided across Morecambe Bay.
