Teacher - Post-Primary
Responsibilities
* 1. Planning: Planning and preparing courses and lessons; teaching according to pupils’ educational needs, including setting and marking work; assessing, recording and reporting on development, progress and attainment of pupils.
* 2. General: Promote the general progress and well-being of pupils; provide advice and guidance on educational and social matters and future careers; maintain records on personal and social needs; communicate with parents and with outside bodies approved by the employing authority and the Board of Governors; participate in meetings related to these areas.
* 3. Assessment/Reporting: Provide or contribute to oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to pupils.
* 4. Staff Development/Professional Development: Participate in staff development and performance review; review teaching methods and programmes; participate in further training and development; advise and cooperate with the Principal and other teachers on courses of study, teaching materials, methods, assessment and pastoral arrangements.
* 5. Discipline/Health and Safety: Maintain good order and discipline; safeguard pupils’ health and safety on and off premises; participate in school meetings related to curriculum, administration, and pastoral arrangements.
* 6. Public Examinations: Assist in preparing pupils for public examinations, assess and report on examinations, and supervise during such examinations.
* 7. Review and Development of Management Activities/Administration: Contribute to appointment and development of other teachers; coordinate or manage the work of other teachers; participate in curriculum and pastoral development; assist with administrative tasks and the management of resources; attend assemblies; register attendance and supervise pupils where required.
* 8. Number of Days/Hours of Work: Availability for 195 days per year (with specified teaching vs non-teaching days); hours and breaks as defined in the terms and conditions; annual year defined as 12 months from 31 July; week defined as 7 days from Sunday.
* 9. Staff Cover: Supervise and teach pupils when a teacher is unavailable, subject to school size-based limits for cover; work is provided as guidelines and may change with circumstances.

Person Specification and Selection Criteria
* Essential Criteria — Qualifications/Professional Membership: Hold a teaching qualification recognized to teach in grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland; hold a degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification enabling you to teach Music as your main subject; be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up post.
* Essential Criteria — Experience: Demonstrable experience of teaching Music at Key Stage 3 to achieve positive learning outcomes.
* Essential Criteria — Knowledge/Skills/Other: Knowledge of Northern Ireland Curriculum; safeguarding and child protection policy; SEND Code of Practice; current assessment methods; effective teaching and classroom management; ability to work as part of a team; supportive, inclusive learning environment; alignment with school ethos.
* Desirable Criteria — Qualifications/Experience: Minimum of 1 year’s experience teaching Music at Key Stage 3; experience assisting with or accompanying a school choir; Grade 7 music instrument performance (audition may be part of selection); minimum 1 year’s experience teaching Music at Key Stage 4.
