TheBand 2 Clinical Support Worker plays a vital role within the Stroke Unit,providing high-quality, compassionate care to patients recovering from strokeand related neurological conditions. Working under the supervision ofregistered nursing staff, the post holder supports patients with theirphysical, emotional, and personal care needs while contributing to a safe,clean, and supportive ward environment.

Main duties of the job

Assistpatients with personal care needs including washing, dressing, toileting,continence care, and oral hygiene while maintaining dignity and respect.

Supportpatients with mobility, transfers, repositioning, and the use of mobilityaids in accordance with moving and handling policies.

Assist patients with eating and drinking,including those with swallowing difficulties, following guidance from nursingstaff and the multidisciplinary team. Carry out delegated clinical tasks suchas recording vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, urine testing, andweighing patients, reporting any abnormalities promptly.

Observepatients physical, emotional, and psychological condition and elevateconcerns appropriately.

Supportrehabilitation activities and encourage patient independence as appropriate.

Communicationand Teamwork Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, and carers,providing reassurance and support. Work collaboratively with registerednurses and the wider multidisciplinary team including therapists and medicalstaff.

Participatein handovers and contribute relevant patient information when required.Environment, Safety, and Infection Control Maintain a clean, safe, andwell-organised ward and patient environment.

Cleanand prepare equipment in line with infection prevention and control policies.Adhere to health and safety regulations, including risk assessments andincident reporting


About us

TheStroke Unit are part of the Centre for Neurosciences. The ward consists of a23-bedded, mixed-sex adult stroke unit that provides expert care, assessmentand treatment for patients with acute stroke. The 10-bedded Level 2 HyperAcute Stroke Unit (HASU) admits patients directly from the EmergencyDepartment and functions as a Regional Thrombectomy Centre, also receivingpatients from Harrogate. We are an extremely busy service with high demands.We are committed to delivering excellent patient care and maintaining highstandards of practice, aligned with and regional and national stroke serviceexpectations. Our team is guided by strong, deeply held values, with aconstant focus on providing high-quality care to the people of Leeds. JobPurpose

Toprovide high-quality, compassionate, and patient-centred care to patientswithin the Acute Stroke Unit and Hyperacute Stroke Unit (HASU), supportingregistered nursing staff in the delivery of safe, effective, and timely care.

Thepost holder will assist patients during the acute and recovery phases ofstroke, promote dignity and independence, and contribute to a clean, safe,and therapeutic environment.

KeyDuties and Responsibilities

ClinicalCare and Patient Support

Accuratelyrecord care provided and observations in patient records in line with trustguidelines.

Maintainconfidentiality and comply with data protection requirements at all times.

Followall trust policies, procedures, and professional standards.

ProfessionalDevelopment Participate in mandatory training and ongoing development. Workwithin own level of competence and seek support or guidance when required.

Engagein supervision, appraisals, and competency assessments.

Working ConditionsThe role involves shift work including days, nights, weekends, and bankholidays.

Thepost holder will work across both the Acute Stroke Unit and Hyperacute StrokeUnit (HASU), supporting patients with acute and complex needs.

Thepost requires physical activity including standing, walking, and assistingpatients with mobility.

Experience

* Experience of working with people in a caring or supportive role (paid or voluntary). Experience of working as part of a team.
* Previous experience working in a healthcare setting. Experience caring for patients with complex or acute needs. Experience within a stroke, neurological, or acute ward environment.
