About the role
We have a brand-new opportunity for a Design Manager to join our Bristol office. You will be part of a collaborative, knowledgeable, highly engaged team offering a supportive, flexible, and high-performing work culture. In this key and varied role, you can expect to:
* Manage a team of mechanical, electrical and public health engineers to develop a Building Services design to BSRIA stages 4a - 4c level of output.
* Manage a team of Revit technicians in the production of MEP services models to stage 4a-c level of detail.
* Foster and maintain good client and professional relationships to create future opportunities.
* Attend interviews and contribute to bid preparation.
* Be aware of consultant appointment conditions and define/agree briefs with the client.
* Demonstrate knowledge of construction procurement and related risks.
* Lead larger scale schemes and coordinate all disciplines as the main client point of contact.
* Take ownership and deliver profitable schemes; represent all disciplines at project meetings.
* Manage and prioritise the workload of a project team, host and chair team management meetings, and delegate effectively.
* Monitor project expenditure and report to Directors; ensure quality standards and technical accuracy.
* Manage and mitigate risks to the business and communicate effectively at all levels.
* Develop and enhance methods of working to improve efficiency and firm capability in delivering this service.
* Produce the order of fees required to undertake detailed design duties.
About you
To be successful in this role you’ll need:
* Extensive experience in the production and delivery of stage 4 detailed design directly working for an MEP installer.
* Experience working with clients, contractors and architects in a design-oriented/consultant role.
* Strong technical knowledge in the primary engineering discipline and familiarity with relevant regulations and design guides.
* Good understanding of other disciplines; IT literacy with relevant software.
* Excellent organisational and planning skills to work to timescales and deadlines.
* Ability to lead an integrated project design team with other construction professionals.
* Proficiency with Revit for review and comment purposes; understanding of stage 4 building services design details.
* Knowledge of buildability and commissioning requirements; ability to interpret BIM requirements for compliance.
* Self-awareness, an open mind, and a spirit of generosity; experience in supporting others to develop knowledge, skills and confidence.
