Lecturer - English – GCSE and Functional Skills
36 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
Uxbridge / Hayes
£32,455 to £45,260 per annum including London Weighting

Main Purpose of the Post
The main purpose of the job is to teach English, GCSE and/or Functional Skills, to students from various curriculum backgrounds and to maximize their success.
Duties
Recruitment of Students
* Participate in open evenings and recruitment activities to provide accurate information and guidance to potential applicants and students.
* Complete and contribute to the creation of accurate information and fact sheets.
* Interview potential applicants and contribute to the College’s interview scheduling.
* Support the development, promotion, and delivery of the team’s marketing and recruitment strategies.
Induction and Support for Students
* Conduct student inductions and assist in designing induction programs.
* Carry out academic progress reviews, including documentation.
* Collaborate with Attendance Co-ordinators to ensure student attendance, retention, and achievement.
* Understand and stay updated on student support and learning support arrangements, making appropriate referrals.
* Ensure that basic skills assessments are undertaken and students receive effective learning support.
* Maintain up-to-date resources within your subject area, accessible to students and staff.
* Prepare students for employability, further education, and training.
Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent in English or related subject, or a minimum Level 3 qualification with proven successful experience of teaching GCSE English for at least 2 years.
* English and Maths at GCSE Grade C/4 or willingness to achieve, supported by the College.
* Minimum Level 5 teaching qualification recognized by the FE sector (e.g., DET, PGCE) or willingness to obtain it, supported by the College.
Knowledge and Experience
* Experience in teaching or tutoring GCSE and/or Functional Skills English.
Other Skills
* Ability to engage and motivate vocational learners aged 16-18.
* Ability to manage challenging behavior effectively and engage reluctant learners.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* High literacy standards.
* Good interpersonal skills.
* Effective teaching practices.
