Overview

Sheffield Hallam University has an exciting opportunity for a collaborative and family-focused individual with strong experience in family support or community engagement to join us as our Family Link Worker at our community nursery and research centre in Shirecliffe, Sheffield.

As the Link Worker you will work directly with families to help them meet the challenges they face and achieve their aspirations. This is a new and exciting position that comes out of our partnership working with Save the Children UK, Homewards, Aviva and Pride of Place.

As Family Link Worker, you’ll play a vital role in supporting families at Meadows nursery and in the wider community to meet the challenges they face and work towards their aspirations. Meadows nursery is a unique partnership involving partners and charities aiming to improve outcomes for children in the local area, helping them achieve their potential through research and innovation in early years education and care.

You’ll work with the Head of the Early Years Community Research Centre, the nursery Deputy Managers and partners to identify family needs, connect them to relevant services and co-design new approaches to improve the lives of families in Shirecliffe, Sheffield.

This role suits someone who has experience of working with families in early years or community settings, ideally with experience of working in communities that face socio-economic challenges.

You will be passionate about working in partnership with families and be sensitive to the challenges many families currently face. You will have the ability to form positive, trusting relationships and stay steady and calm in the working context. This is a rewarding opportunity to grow professionally while helping families and to flourish.

This role requires you to be on site the majority of the time at the Meadows Nursery location, there are limited opportunities for hybrid working due to the nature of the work. Please note that the role requires you to take your annual leave outside of school term time although there will be some preparation time also in a holiday for example towards the end of the summer holiday.


Responsibilities

* Identify family needs, connect them to relevant services and co-design new approaches to improve lives of families in Shirecliffe and the wider community.
* Collaborate with the Head of the Early Years Community Research Centre, nursery Deputy Managers and partners.
* Support Meadows nursery in its partnership with charities and organisations aiming to improve outcomes for children through early years education and care.


Qualifications

* Experience of working with families in early years or community settings, ideally in communities facing socio-economic challenges.
* Ability to form positive, trusting relationships and to stay calm and resilient in working contexts.
* Passion for working in partnership with families.
* Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check required. A criminal record will be assessed for relevance to duties.


Benefits & Requirements

* On-site role at Meadows Nursery with limited hybrid working.
* Contractual enrollment in the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
* You may opt out of LGPS and remain in the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) if recently a member; discuss options with the Pensions team.
* Not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route; international applicants must have right to work in the UK.
