The General Counsel's Organization (GCO) of American Express is seeking a Manager & Counsel to join the Global Cybersecurity, Resiliency, and Third-Party Risk team (GCRT) within the Global Enterprise Services group (GES). GCRT has global responsibility as subject matter experts in legal issues related to cybersecurity, third party risk management and resiliency. The team advises and supports other legal department colleagues and the Technology and Information Security Risk, Global Supply Management, Third-party Risk Management, and Enterprise Resiliency organizations. Some of the work the team does involves advising on regulatory contracting matters, performing risk analysis and mitigation, supporting compliance with new legal requirements and engaging in public policy and legislative analysis and lobbying. Your role would primarily involve legal support and advisory for cybersecurity and privacy contracting, risk management, and public policy analysis/lobbying. How will you make an impact in this role? Provide legal advice and negotiation support to technology, business, and legal teams globally on a broad range of cybersecurity, business continuity, and privacy contracting with vendors and business partners. Help manage the security, business continuity, and privacy contracting program, including risk management processes. Identify and implement improvements for the contracting function to adapt to changing global legal requirements, industry standards, regulatory expectations, and new technologies, including through automation. Monitor and advise on global emerging legal requirements and trends. Assist in the development of American Express strategy and support the government affairs team in lobbying efforts related to proposed legislation. Prepare and support the delivery of internal training. Build positive working relationships across the legal department, business, and technology teams. Implement and improve methods for legal knowledge management within the team. Help lead and project manage key initiatives and tasks, assisting more senior lawyers. Collaborate across the General Counsel’s Organization to facilitate knowledge sharing and best practices. Support the work of the Global Cybersecurity, Resiliency, and Third-Party Risk team, as required. Minimum Qualifications Experience and interest in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts. Strong interest in cybersecurity, privacy, emerging technologies, and risk management. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communications skills. Experience and interest in project management. Ability to manage and prioritize competing demands while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines. Ability to gain credibility, manage expectations, and develop strong working relationships with colleagues. Ability to be agile and adaptable when challenged with new information or evolving circumstances. J.D. with eligibility to practice law in New York or London. Proven years of relevant work experience in a law firm and/or in-house corporate legal department. Preferred Qualifications Experience with cybersecurity, privacy, and other data protection laws and legal requirements globally. Proven ability to act as a trusted advisor to business teams.
