Job Responsibilities
* Provide a Medicines Management service to the allocated prison(s) on a weekly basis with the professional support of a prison services pharmacist
* Oversee the ordering/supply of repeat prescriptions
* Supervise assistants in the dispensary and provide dispensing services for all prisons
* Dispense prescriptions and stock items in the dispensary
* Work towards accreditation as a checking technician and/or medicines administration to provide final dispensing checks and medicines administration services, if not already achieved
* Ensure high standards of work in the dispensary and during prison visits, and comply with all SOPs
* Manage own workload when providing medicines management services
* Provide weekly clinical visits under the professional supervision of a pharmacist, including:
o Stock top‑up service for all areas storing medicines
o Review expiry dates and storage facilities, reporting deficiencies to the prison service pharmacist
o Assist the prison service pharmacist in providing advice to prisoners and staff about appropriate use of medicines
o Undertake 3‑monthly controlled drugs stock checks and report issues
* Promote healthy lifestyles for offenders in line with local and national guidelines
* Administer medicines to offenders against a valid prescription on the house blocks
* Demonstrate ongoing CPD and be responsible for self‑development within pharmacy or related specialty
* Participate in clinical and departmental audits as required
* Adhere to all prison procedures and secure environment requirements
* Undertake any other tasks at the request of the Lead Prison Services Pharmacist
Person Specification
Essential
* NVQ level 3 Pharmacy Services or equivalent
* Registration with GPhC as a pharmacy technician
* Evidence of CPD
* 2 years’ experience working in a pharmacy
* Good knowledge of SOPs
* Ability to use, or learn to use, computer packages including Pharmacy Manager/JAC and Microsoft
Desirable
* Working towards Accredited Checking or MM Technician Certificate
* Previous prison or mental health pharmacy experience
* Some understanding of mental illness and substance misuse and their treatment
* Ability to use initiative to problem‑solve
