Locum Consultant in Geriatrics ( Acute)
Fixed Term Contract – 12 Months Post

Whipps Cross University Hospital is part of Barts Health NHS Trust and is situated in Waltham Forest, North East London. The hospital serves a diverse local population of more than 350,000.
Our department is undergoing a period of expansion and service development in conjunction with the local health economy to provide a first-class service to our local population both in and outside of Whipps Cross University Hospital.
Main duties of the job
Thepost offeranexciting opportunity tojoinagrowing team andtodevelopnew models of workingandservicesthat supportallolderpeopleattendingthehospitalandwithinthelocal community. Whipps Cross Hospitalservesa local population withahigh degreeoffrailty and withintheBartsHealthGroupis being developedtobeacentreforGeriatricMedicine.
Thepost-holderisexpectedtobebasedinanacutegeriatricmedicinewardprovidingcare for patients with multimorbidity andfrailty.
The service currently supplies inpatient services including Acute Geriatrics, a Frailty unit, Orthogeriatrics, Surgical liaison. We also provide CGA clinics, we support memory services and the Barts Health Dementia and Delirium team.
We are entering an exciting time of development for services in our brand-new Hospital being planned at the current time and this post is part of a significant investment aimed at transforming geriatric medicine care on the Whipps Cross Site.
We’re looking for dynamic individual to Lead our team with their ideas and enthusiasm, as well as a passion for providing excellent clinical care to older people.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. MRCP or Equivalent Specialist qualification
2. Full GMC Registration with license to practice
Desirable criteria
3. Evidence of participation in research (peer reviewed publications etc.)
4. Appropriate higher degree (e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent)
Experience
Essential criteria
5. Higher specialist training in Geriatrics and G(I)Medicine
6. Broad experience in Geriatrics and G(I)M
Desirable criteria
7. Ability to organize and deliver a teaching programme.
8. Experience in service development
9. Current ALS certificate
Knowledge
Essential criteria
10. Detailedknowledge ofGeriatricsand G(I)M and of the specialist skills required for this post.
11. Knowledge of multidisciplinary clinical audit and demonstrable commitment to improving quality of care to patients
12. Understanding of modern medical curricula and commitment to life-long learning
Skills
Essential criteria
13. Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
14. Ability to teachmedical students and junior medical and nursing staff.
15. Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs nurses and other agencies.
16. Ability tomanage staff and resources effectively.
