Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated professional to fulfil the role of a Principal Consultant in our sustainability team, a friendly and fast-growing team of sustainability consultants that supports clients with their transition to a low-carbon, sustainable future.

Key competencies
The successful candidate will play a leading role in delivering high-quality sustainability, Net Zero, energy efficiency consultancy advice for our Scottish clients. For this you’ll need experience and understanding of some or all of the following subject matters:
* Experience of leading area-wide sustainability and net zero programme and strategy development (e.g. LHEES/LAEP/Heat Network Zoning).
* Significant practice of working on or leading place-based, large scale and nation/region-wide approaches to decarbonising the built environment for local authorities and/or national government (e.g. delivery of retrofit, heat network projects and programmes).
* Proven success in service and business development including preparing proposals, bidding and winning work (ideally for place-based decarbonisation projects though not necessary).
* Expert understanding of the climate change, decarbonisation and heat in buildings policy landscape in Scotland as well as an ability to translate these policies into strategies and programmes that are deliverable.
* Experience of navigating complex stakeholder relationships to successfully deliver decarbonisation projects.
* Programme and project management and leadership, including managing budgets and project teams.
* Commission management including defining scope with the client and quality control of deliverables and outputs.
Qualifications
* Good understanding of low and zero carbon technologies and strategies to reduce emissions in buildings at an area-wide or place-based level (e.g. renewable energy, heat networks, heat pumps and fabric measures)
* A strong presence and network within the Scottish public sector decarbonisation landscape, demonstrated with history of work with Scottish Government, Scottish Local Authorities and other public sector
* Demonstrably excellent analytic and communication skills, including excellent written communication skills (e.g. ability to simplify complex subjects into implementable strategies and delivery plans);
* An understanding of Scottish public sector procurement rules and consulting market landscape;
* Competent user of data management software (Excel at least but other skills beneficial) and systems for data cleansing, management, analytics, and quality assurance; (desirable)
* Good commercial awareness including the ability to articulate business decisions within the wider context and market trends – our clients are spending £millions and trust us to get the best possible returns for such investment.

As a member of Turner & Townsend’s Sustainability team you are:
* A cooperative team member leading team members in the successful delivery of multiple projects simultaneously;
* Expected to lead business generation activities, such as developing leads, bid writing and developing proposals;
* Capable of building strong, professional client relationships and identifying and resolving client’s issues;
* Capable of independently completing tasks, managing teams, and managing others’ time in addition to taking responsibility for your own time management
* Ability to work towards overall project timescales and potentially tight deadlines;
* Able to analyse information quickly and efficiently, choose or recommend from a range of options and make decisions where the parameters are unclear and judgement needs to be exercised;
* Aside from accepting personal responsibility for the quality and commercial delivery aspects of your work you will be expected to develop skills and share knowledge within the whole consulting practice;
* Well organised and methodical, with good attention to detail.
* Able to manage commissions, including client liaison, team resource management and budget management
