Responsibilities
* Champion the reducing restrictive interventions agenda, ensuring safe, compassionate and high‑quality care that places patients at the centre.
* Plan, deliver and monitor evidence‑based training aligned with the Restraint Reduction Network Standards to reduce incidents of violence and aggression.
* Provide expert clinical advice, support risk management, contribute to policy development and undertake analysis and reporting linked to restrictive practices.
* Lead the development of self‑governing PMVA practice within the Trust, identify income‑generation opportunities and support ongoing service improvement.
* Maintain governance structures, oversee the reduction in physical interventions and produce high‑quality reports for the Trust Board on restrictive practice usage, associated risks and wider quality issues.
* Collaborate with the Lead Nurse for Standards and Quality, the Associate Director of Clinical Governance and the PMVA Team Lead to ensure PMVA training is robust, clearly focused and aligned with national guidance and best practice, maintaining BILD certification.
* Lead the implementation and ongoing monitoring of the Trust’s Reducing Restrictive Intervention Strategy, supporting operational reductions in restrictive practices across the organisation.
* Interpret regulatory and advisory frameworks, ensure safe delivery of training and communicate requirements to stakeholders.
* Provide expert guidance, support and professional leadership to multi‑professional teams in risk management, complex case reviews and crisis response.
* Investigate incidents involving restrictive physical interventions and ensure learning is embedded in practice.
* Identify and act on learning from local and national data, research and evidence to support continual improvement in reducing violence, aggression and the use of physical interventions, including models such as Safewards.
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse (RNMH / RNLD) and/or relevant degree in Violence Reduction or similar.
* Experience working at Band 7 or above for at least 2 years within a mental health or learning disability setting.
* Evidence of continuous personal and professional development.
* Extensive knowledge of specialist areas and of pre‑ and post‑registration issues for clinical and professional staff within the NHS.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office with intermediate keyboard skills.
* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of equality opportunity and diversity.
* Must have appropriate UK professional registration.
