Job Overview
The role is based primarily at the Archipelago Offices, located approximately a 10‑minute walk from Frimley Park Hospital. While the main base is Archipelago, it is a cross‑site position with responsibilities across all three of the Trust’s hospital locations, requiring flexible working and travel as needed.
The post includes direct line management responsibility for one staff member and requires developing strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Internal stakeholders: Executive and Non‑Executive Directors, Audit Committee Members, Chiefs of Service, Associate Directors, Budget Holders and wider Trust staff. External stakeholders: Department of Health, NHS Improvement, NHS Supply Chain, Crown Commercial Service, NHS Commercial Solutions, other NHS and non‑NHS procurement hubs, suppliers’ National Sales Managers, Regional Sales Managers and Account Managers.
Main Responsibilities
* Deliver strategic procurement initiatives across an allocated portfolio of sourcing categories.
* Ensure full compliance with relevant legislation, UK law and the Trust’s Standing Financial Instructions.
* Provide efficient and effective procurement services, maximizing value for money through process improvement, robust sourcing strategies and total cost of ownership analysis.
* Report directly to the Head of Procurement and act as deputy when required.
* Manage cross‑site operations and travel between the Trust’s hospital locations as necessary.
* Develop and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
* Essential: Member of CIPS or equivalent, educated to degree level or equivalent, evidence of CPD related to purchasing and supply chain management.
* Desirable: Project management (PRINCE2 or equivalent), an appropriate professional and/or management qualification.
Experience
* Essential: Significant experience in a Category Management role, demonstrable experience running capital/professional services procurement projects, evidence of achievements in terms of savings or service improvements, experience in people management.
* Desirable: Experience working with senior staff, experience working with the NHS Terms and Conditions of Supply.
Skills and Knowledge
* Essential: Ability to manage and deliver multiple projects of varying complexity within competing time‑scales, to work on several projects simultaneously and deliver to agreed deadlines, to analyse and interpret complex information and provide effective solutions for stakeholders, advanced IT skills including specialist software for contract management, e‑tendering, mathematical and logical formulas, and skill to generate accurate charts and graphs.
* Desirable: Ability to work autonomously at a senior level, developed knowledge of Microsoft products and ability to suggest and implement process improvements.
