Our client, a prominent name in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a contract FPGA Engineer to join their esteemed team. This role is centred in the Surveillance Sector, where you will play a crucial part in developing firmware and working on FPGAs that support both proven surveillance radar systems and breakthrough next-generation technologies.Key Responsibilities:Developing high-performance firmware for critical surveillance radar solutions like Osprey and SeasprayEngaging in requirement capture, architecture definition, design maturation, integration, and qualification support of next-generation surveillance radarsAnalysing system-level requirements and capturing/deriving detailed firmware requirementsUtilising technical expertise in firmware design techniques and tools, from VHDL to place-and-routeSpecifying timing and area constraints for efficient FPGA place-and-routeIntegrating and debugging complex systems where firmware interacts with hardware and softwareCollaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure successful project deliveryMentoring junior team members to enhance their skills in firmware developmentJob Requirements:Degree (BSc, BEng, MEng, MSc, PhD) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering or a related fieldAbility to analyse system level requirements and derive detailed firmware requirementsExperience in firmware design techniques and tools, from VHDL to place-and-routeExperience with FPGA architectures such as system-on-chip (e.g., Xilinx Versal)Proficiency in specifying timing and area constraints for FPGA place-and-routeExperience in integrating and debugging complex systems involving firmware, hardware, and softwareExperience working in mixed-discipline teamsDue to the nature of the work, five years of UK residency and the capability to achieve full SC security clearance are requiredDesirable Qualifications:Experience with auto-generated code using model-driven engineering tools like MATLAB and SimulinkProficiency in design tools such as Verilog, System Verilog, and UVMExperience with Siemens tools like HDL Designer and QuestaSimFamiliarity with using tools like DOORs and ReqTracerExperience within the defence industryLocation/Hybrid Working Requirements:This role is based on-site in Edinburgh.
