The Brunel Building houses 802 beds, 75% of which are single occupancy, along with a modern theatre complex with 29 theatres and interventional suites. The Women’s and Children’s Centre has 152 beds. The hospital features a state-of-the-art 46-bed ICU, regional specialist services, and is a designated Major Trauma Centre.
The department is accredited and undergoing re-accreditation, offering a broad range of specialist services, including vascular, colorectal, urology, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, stroke, plastics, burns, breast care, obstetrics, pain management, and pre-operative services.
The Trust is affiliated with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. The appointee must reside within 30 minutes of Southmead Hospital for on-call duties.

Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register with a CCT in Anaesthesia or be within six months of obtaining it by the interview date. Full GMC registration is essential. Experience with UK hospital systems is required. The appointment will be under the Terms & Conditions of Service for Consultants (England) 2003.

Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent
* Full GMC registration
* CCT in anaesthesia, or within six months of award at interview
* Higher academic qualification (MD or MS)
* Teaching qualification (Diploma or higher)
* European Diploma in Regional Anaesthesia
Experience
* Recent UK hospital system experience or equivalent
* Minimum 6 years postgraduate experience, including 3 years as a registrar or equivalent
* Extensive experience in relevant subspecialties
* Experience in non-UK hospital systems
Knowledge
* Recent CME and training progression
* Experience in audit projects and publications
* Knowledge of NHS management issues and political context
* Experience in educational roles and change management
Skills
* Proven teaching ability
* Willingness to teach undergraduates and postgraduates
* Research track record and publications
* Effective teaching skills
Personal Requirements
* Leadership and teamwork skills
