I currently have a Design Opportunity with a very established and reputable client based in Swindon. The client designs and builds a range of specialized equipment within the Transmission and Distribution sector. With projects spanning internationally they have a very credible presence in the industry competing with much larger clients in their field such as Siemens, GE, ABB and Schneider.
The role for Power Systems Engineer would involve working closely with the Operations team, collecting design requirements, substation visits and internal discussions, and you will also be required to produce engineering documents and drawings, prepare costings and bill of material documents for projects. This will include providing advice for the application of voltage control, tap changers and control, power systems protection equipment, support for existing products and input into new product development.
Requirements:
* Have a strong background in general electrical engineering and electrical circuit theory with a strong command of mathematics with either a HND, HNC, degree in electrical/power systems engineering or equivalent qualification or experience
* Able to read, understand and communicate through technical specifications and drawings and demonstrate a good standard of verbal and written English
* Producing electrical design schematics for substations using AutoCAD electrical
* Experience of producing schematics, wiring diagrams, core and cable schedules and control panel general arrangements in 2D and 3D
* Producing bill of material files (BOMs/QOMs) and customer quotes through customer specification documents and requirements capturing
* Customer support and customer interfacing
* Knowledge of power systems and electrical substation arrangements
* Knowledge of distributed generation and their effects on the power system
* Be able to carry out independent research for consultancy related projects
* Experience in using load flow analysis and fault level software (e.g. IPSA power).
* Protection and voltage control settings calculation
Experience of any of the following would be useful but not essential:
* Working within electrical substations
* Designing and draughting voltage control schemes
* Designing and draughting electrical protection schemes
* Power systems and electrical substation arrangements and the equipment that can be found there including tapchangers and voltage control schemes
* Electrical substation control panels design, especially voltage control panels
* System automation; using PLCs or similar
* Software programming; e.g. Python, VBA
