Main duties of the job
This is your chance to make a real difference to people living with complex, enduring mental health conditions who are experiencing acute, long term mental health problems within our inpatient services in North Cumbria.
You will be a highly skilled and knowledgeable team player who is able to think holistically and creatively in order to deliver specialist assessment and management and physiotherapy service provision for service users who have a variety of complex physiotherapy needs, diverse presentations and a range of mental health, learning disabilities and /or neurological conditions, alongside our multi-disciplinary team.
Alongside the clinical leads and other colleagues, you will undertake the service development and implementation of evidence based core pathways across inpatient services. Using research, innovation, and quality improvement.

Job responsibilities
Provide Specialist Physiotherapy intervention to patients within our inpatient mental health services in North Cumbria across Carleton Clinic, Carlisle and Yewdale, Whitehaven. To undertake a comprehensive assessment of patients including many with diverse or complex presentations/multi pathologies; use advanced clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to provide an accurate diagnosis of their condition. Formulate and deliver an individual Physiotherapy treatment programme based on a sound knowledge of evidence based practice and treatment options using clinical assessment, reasoning skills and knowledge of treatment skills.
Formulate accurate prognosis and recommend best course of intervention, developing comprehensive discharge plans.
Triage and prioritise Physiotherapy referrals in order to implement effective and timely caseload management.
Determine clinical diagnosis through skilled assessment, developing appropriate specialised Physiotherapy treatment plans and maintaining records as an autonomous practitioner.
Provide support, supervision and teaching / training to members of the team and contribute to In service training rota.
Contribute to Service development and change, through liaison with Clinical Lead Physiotherapists. Support evidence-based audit and research projects to further own and teams clinical practice. Make recommendations to the Clinical Leads of service improvements and assist with the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service protocols.
To hold responsibility your own case load, working without direct supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, case conferences. Access to advice and support, clinically and for caseload management, from Clinical lead physiotherapists.
To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
Supervise, educate and assess the performance of Physiotherapy students; this would be to a graduate standard and involve working with universities to ensure the standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by the degree level qualification.

Person Specification
Education and Qualification
* Recognised Physiotherapy Degree Qualification or Equivalent
* State registered with HCPC
* Further relevant post qualifying training.
* Registered member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
Knowledge and Experience
* Proven track record of post registration clinical experience relevant to the post. Awareness and understanding of professional accountability, HCPC and CSP standards and other local and national initiatives.
* Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
* Proven ability to manage a clinical caseload in a flexible manner as required.
* Awareness and understanding of professional accountability, HCPC and CSP standards and other local and national initiatives
* Knowledge of involving service users/ carers in evaluation/planning and monitoring of services
Skills and Competencies
* Skills in a range of appropriate standardised and informal assessments
* Proven ability to communicate effectively within multi-agency teams
* Highly developed communication skills
* Provide appropriate therapeutic interventions
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
