Overview
The post holder will be expected to provide anaesthesia for elective orthopaedic surgery with local consultant supervision. They will follow local guidelines and protocols, including enhanced recovery pathways.
Responsibilities
* Provide anaesthesia for elective orthopaedic surgery under local consultant supervision.
* Follow local guidelines and protocols, including enhanced recovery pathways.
* Participate in the Colchester on-call rota covering the 2-bed recovery in the Dame Clare Marx Building with a frequency of no greater than 1 in 8.
* Provide support to the Foundation Doctor covering the 3 elective orthopaedic wards (up to 72 beds in total), assess deteriorating patients and escalate care as necessary (including transfer to the main hospital critical care unit).
* Contribute to the general on-call rota and work in other areas as required.
* Deputise from time to time for absent colleagues and, exceptionally, perform additional duties in emergencies or unforeseen circumstances.
* Supervise junior staff, teach, train and participate in departmental governance and quality improvement meetings.
Qualifications
* Completed Core Training in anaesthesia.
* Looking to develop portfolio in preparation for an ST4 application.
* Ability to undertake supervised quality improvement projects, develop protocols and pathways that support ESEOC.
* Support to undertake fellowship examinations and CV development.
